Legend Trail Upcoming Parties
January 22, 2010
We have a lot of parties coming up that you are invited to attend. We have them listed on the calendar also. We have the FYSH FRY FRYDAY on Fryday, February 5th from 5 pm to 8 pm. It is the fyrst Fryday of the month. No reservations needed for this one. Come one come all.
Super Bowl Party begins at 11 am. Food available from 5 pm to 8 pm. We will have our regular menu plus wings and pizza available. It is our special ORANGE MENU. We will have drink specials after every skore and at the top of each hour.
Valentines Dinner & Dance – second annual event. We had over 100 reservations in 2009. A very popular event where you do not have to go to Cedar Falls or Waterloo or where ever to have some fun, food and dancing. This event, because of the menu does require reservations. So call the pro shop by noon on Friday the 12th for your spot in our hearts.
Knuckle Knight – each and every Wednesday night from 5 pm to 7 pm. $1, a buck, gets you a free drink and in our weekly drawing. Proceeds as a member of the Knucklehead Knight group will go towards a charity at the end of the year. So help us grow that cash pot to the charity.
We are trying to give you every excuse to come out and play golf, pool, eat or fellowship at The Tap Room and at Legend Trail Golf. As a reminder, we are a very very PUBLIC facility. We are open to all. You do not have to be a member or season ticket holder to eat or play at our facility in Parkersburg. We do accept more friends if you bring them.
Winter Pool League at Legend Trail starts Jan 14th
January 13, 2010
Our winter pool league begins on Thursday, January 14th. Here is the schedule for the year. If you want to come hassle our players that is fine with us. You can always find this schedule and the current standings under Tap Room and Pool League. We also post the standings and schedule over by the office. Thanks for playing and let’s have a great time.
Legend Trail in 2010-pool league, season pass and more
January 10, 2010
We are off to a good start to the year. We have avoided some of the really bad snow. Though what we have had is bad enough. But as Fred Junker says–at least we have no bugs and we don’t sweat as much. We are less than 90 days from opening back up for golf. Hard to believe that one. Just look at the pictures on this website to see sunshine, blue sky and GREEN GRASS.
People ask us what one should do for the winter to keep in “golf shape”. Look under the Golf Lessons, Tips for more information on that.
The Tap Room at Legend Trail Golf: a few things to keep in mind in the coming weeks.
Winter Pool League begins Thursday, January 14th. We have 10, yes 10 teams signed up for the winter league. We’d like 12 or 14 and split into two leagues with two tables going. Must be 21 years of age to sign up. Don’t have a partner or just want to sub? Call us and give us your name and we will have you sub. That may be every week for you or every other week, all you have to do is say yes or no. DEADLINE to sign up is Tuesday, January 12th at 7 pm. So Greg can set the schedule for the league.
Early Season Golf Pass Sale ends January 15th. We will do this each and every year. You can buy your 2010 pass for the 2009 price. This also includes the cart shed storage, annual trail fee and season lease cart. After that we will raise the prices a bit. So save now if you have any inclination on joining. For those that join ARC, Beaver Meadows, AGC or Waverly Golf also, bring in your receipt/card from those facilities and we will give you a gift certificate for joining multiple courses. Must be a full member/season ticket holder at those facilities to be eligible. (men’s day/league-Thursday Night, ladies’ night will be Tuesday Nights, couples on Friday Nights and all new Family Day on Sunday’s) WE ALREADY HAVE FOUR NEW MEMBERS THAT WERE NOT WITH US IN 2008 or 2009. Pretty exciting. So sign up now, better yet bring a friend along to join also.
New BAR NIGHTS-we have a new fun bar night on Wednesday nights. We are calling it Knuckle Knight (short for Knucklehead Knight). We are all Knuckleheads to come degree, so come join the fun. It will be a good cause. You buy an Annual Knucklehead card for $5. This money will go towards some charity at the end of the year, of the Knucklehead’s membership’s choosing-ADA, MDA, Abused Women to name a few. For this card you will receive your first drink FREE each Wednesday night that you attend and give $1 or a buck. Each night we will put the dollar of all attending Knucklehead Members into a pool. We will draw a name from the hat each Wednesday night at 7 pm. The winner gets 1/2 of the pot and the other 1/2 of the pot goes to the aforementioned charity. So the more members we have join this fun club the more money to charity and more money in the weekly pot. We already have two paid members.
We hope to continue more specials and fun at The Tap Room and Legend Trail Golf. We are just waiting for the weather to break so that we can start promoting All Golf Center and Waverly Golf Course. Hope to see you at one of our places.
Krusey and Goodrich win Fall Pool League at Legend Trail
January 8, 2010
Chuck Krusey and Virgil Goodrich win the Fall Pool League Season Ending Tournament. These two never lost a match in their title run. These two partnered and coached each other to their first Pool League title. They beat Tony Dunn and Jerry Hennings who were subbing for Curt Smith and Todd Benson. This was Chuck’s second title at Legend Trail this year. He partnered with Rod Spree to win the Season Ending Golf League Match Play tournament. So if you want to win a play-off event—get Chuck as your partner.
John Harkrider and Josh Eastmasn won the regular season portion of our Fall Pool League. Thanks for playing.

G3 Golf reflections of 2009
January 3, 2010
Tony Dunn termed our New Year’s Eve Party on December 31, 2008. “Things were not great in ʼ08, letʼs celebrate how divine it will be in ʼ09!” So I decided to look back on the year and see what we had to celebrate. Also to see what things had changed and what things had stayed the same. What we miss.
Before I get into this I will ask that you take some responsibility and help yourself and us in communicating what is going on. We have this website and we have our weekly e-mails. I will endeavor to give a weekly e-mail to you. I do not want to bore you with daily e-mails as I get annoyed with them also. Let other people know about this e-mail program. We have almost 1,000 currently but need 3,000 to make it really work. I will also work on updating the pages on the website–pricing at all facilities, the calendar to update events and happenings at all three facilities and the weekly/daily blog that we write. Your responsibility is to tell others about the website (www.g3golf.com), explore the website and to read the weekly e-mails. Should not take more than 5 minutes. This will be the longest note of the year.
We opened a restaurant called The Tap Room. And we are still here. We met many new friends that we would not have met if we were only a golf course. But “we’re more than a golf course” and you people are proof of that. They are still our friends today. Booze, Junker’s, Stub, Kessler’s, Denny, you name them and we are glad we are friends with them. Thanks for a great 2009 and a good start to the year and decade.
I vowed over 23 years ago that I would not hire my wife to work for me full time in the golf business. OOPS!!! She went to work full time in February for me. She has been a welcome addition to our staff at Legend Trail Golf and The Tap Room. I was proven wrong that we could work together. Thanks Terri.
We will miss family and friends that we have lost over this year, and past years. In 2009 we lost Norma, Bernie and Coach. Many more have left us and are too numerous to mention in this note of reflections. But what I celebrate is that I/we were privileged to know these people. Even if it was for a short time. They still had an influence on me and my families life. Norma fought cancer with grace and dignity. She had a smile each and everyday. A gentle woman that I truly miss each morning at 6 am. Bernie, could one find any one person more positive and helpful than Bernie? He would do anything for anyone and probably more if he didn’t know you. He did this, I think, because he wanted to get to know you. A huge golf fan. Waverly will miss him, I know that I do. Coach was taken from us. A wise man that influenced more than football players. He will be remembered for more than his coaching record over the years. Proof is in the young men and ladies that are behind caring on his dreams and hope of life. FFF and add another F–FUN. I hope that we strive to keep a part of all three of these, and those that have left us, in our hearts and souls.
We have a fun, well conditioned golf course in Parkersburg. We did not know what our golf course would look like after more seeding in late 2008. The slow start to Spring of 2009 left some doubt. But as June, July and the summer went along we noticed more and more grass and the conditions just kept getting better and better. Thanks to John Kofoot and his staff for working their tails off to give us these conditions. In 2010 we will have a fun, golf course product to sell the public. We have already had two members that have joined us that were not members our previous two years. They have noticed the course condition changes. We hope you noticed the changes. Time and money and we can do anything I always say.
Our two kids have graduated from high school. Both have elected to help their dad and his brothers build the golf course businesses we currently run. They have delayed their college educations to get some life lessons in the golf and restaurant businesses. They have become a very fine young man and young woman. It is sure fun watching our kids grow up and mature. For those that have youngsters–enjoy them as they get old way too fast. I know you hear that all the time, but time sure goes fast. Thanks for being our kids Taylor and Steph.
We are blessed to have great employees at our facilities. To have so many friends and customers attend our facilities and golf events (we served over 70,000 people at our three facilities in 2009). We thank you for the support you have given us over the seven years we have been at All Golf Center, three years at Waverly and two years at Legend Trail Golf. I have been a golf pro since 1988. My first year was Beaver Hills Country Club. I am starting my 23rd year in the golf business. 2009 was one of my more enjoyable years. Being an active member of our State and National Associations with the PGA of America. I hope to be a part of this great golf area for another 23 years. I am sure that not many of you can enjoy your job more than I do. My daughter always ask why I like to work so much. It is because I do not consider what I do a job. My position is tooooo enjoyable to be a job. I wish everyone could be in my shoes because of that enjoyment.
Though one gets some constructive and necessary criticism at times. When one has people tell you that they truly enjoyed a golf event, party, meal, or even when you tell us how you enjoy one of staff members. That is truly rewarding. I know that at times people say to me–Greg, did not even know that you weren’t at the event you hosted for us. That tells me that our staff did a fine job running that event and that we have the right people in the right place, most of the time. That is a true compliment to me when one says that. We are not perfect but we sure try to be.
Insurance claims and the details and headaches that go with it are very challenging. Let alone dealing with the government agencies we all must deal with. Whether it is a tornado or a flood, it is tough. I am sure many of you have experienced it also. But we must remember that those people are just doing their job and that they generally do not have a personal vendetta against us. Just as you do in your job. You are just doing it to the best of their ability. Patience is truly a virtue.
My sports teams are all over the place. My Rams really really stink. WOW, enough said. My Orioles are in dire straights. I wonder if we can bring back Cal Ripken and Earl Weaver to get us on the right track. My Suns are fun to watch but I do not have hopes of them winning a Championship. My UNI Panthers Basketball team won the regular season and post season Championships gaining them a birth in the NCAA tourney. They have started 10-1 (now 12-1) to end 2009 and are a fun team to watch. Keep it up men. The UNI Football team ended on disappointment. But I enjoy being disappointed playing for championships rather than how we are going to overcome the disappointment of 1-10? I hope the Walk on from Waukon gets his Football Championship in 2010. But I am a loyal guy and these are my teams for over 20 some over 40 years, so I will stick with them.
What has 2009 done for me going forward in 2010? 2009 has gotten me more focused on what we need and want to do in the golf business and family business in 2010. I feel that we have the right pieces of the puzzle in place to really give you people quality and fun programming at all of our facilities. I am going back to what we did at Airport National in the mid-90s. Teach and promote the game of golf. I will be back advertising more. I will be more available for golf lessons, like I used to be. This may mean that I will be not be behind the counters of our pro shops, but rather walking the driving range line when not giving a golf lesson in hopes of improving your golf game. We will have paid clinics and FREE clinics. See second paragraph on how to find out more. But we have always grown our facilities when we had a full-time teacher. I am still in search of a full-time teacher to supplement my teaching and be available for teaching at all times.
Those are my reflections on 2009. I am truly excited about 2010 in the golf business. We are armed and ready to fire on making the start of the decade a great year. Please come along for the ride as we get you people playing golf, eating lunch or dinner or just stop by and say hi to us.
Thanks from the staffs at Waverly Golf Course, the All Golf Center and The Tap Room at Legend Trail Golf.
My brothers (the other two partners in G3Golf, LLC) Gary and Grant and I thank you.
