GIVE, Golf for Injured Veterans Everywhere, held its annual event at Riverside Golf & Casino Resort Thursday. This great foundation with the VA of Iowa, Riverside Casino and Iowa SectionPGA hosted the 5th Annual event. It raised over $100000 to help assist our GREAT, YES GREAT veterans learn the game of golf. ClubCorp assisted in the venture with a $35.000 check towards this great cause. Led by Jim Dickerson, Seargent Major and a PGA Member, has helped assist over 200 GIVE participants realize that golf can aid in their recovery from their injuries from serving our great country. Waverly Golf Course crowns Hennings, Thorson and Lund City Champs

Waverly Golf Course crowned its City Champions for 2011 on Saturday. Jerry Hennings won his second OPEN title in 3 years with a one shot win over 27 holes over Payne Lund. Stu Thorson moved to the Senior Division and won his first Senior title after winning the Open division. Kathy Lund won the Ladies division and hopes to defend her title against ALL comers in 2012. My 2 brothers and sister were raised by great parents and gave us the love and values we still have to this day and have passed onto to our kids. Thirteen years since we lost them but we think of them everyday. So thanks as you never know when that day will come so be thankful for the ones you are given with the ones that you love.
Waverly City Championship on Saturday

The Waverly City Championship will be contested on Saturday. Men’s Open event, Seniors will play from the White Tees and we have our first lady, Kathy Lund playing from the red tees in the Ladies Division. All categories will play 18 holes of golf. But in the Men’s Open event the TOP 10 and ties will play an additional 9 holes of golf to decide the championship. Our last three winners in the open division have all been over 50 years of age. Come on young dudes, step up and win. First tee time is 9 am tomorrow, however if you can we have times at from 8:30 to 8:50, call the shop to sign up. Must be a Waverly resident or season ticket holder.
78th Waterloo Open week, All Golf opens at 6 am Fri, Sat & Sun

It is Waterloo Open week at the 3 municipal golf courses in Waterloo. Pro-am Thursday and Friday at Irv Warren Memorial, followed by the Pro event on Saturday and Sunday. The Am’s side of the event is 54 holes with each Am playing Gates Park and South Hills followed by the top players playing with the Pro’s on Sunday at Irv Warren. Our PGA Pro’s, Andy Devine, Monte Meyer and Nate Lubs do a great job in working with the Jaycees to make this a successful event. We will open All Golf at 6 am, Fri-Sun for you to fine tune your game. For those that want to play some golf, Waverly Golf and Legend Trail are open for play. Call to see availability. Schuchmann wins Waverly Invite for 2011

Mike Schuchmann shot 67 to match his 69 for a 4 under total to win the 2011 Waverly Invite. Schuch won by 3 over past champion Alan Johnson and Troy Hoffman. Defending Champ Joe Urbanek made a late charge, birdieing 15, 16 and 17 to finish 1 over. A popular winner Schuch birdied 15, 16 & 17 also to win this prestigious event. Many nice rounds today hilited by Neil Doaks 66, but he spotted the Champ too many strokes to win. What a nice Day 1-167 Golfers teed it up, Dunkelberger leads with a 67. Defending Champ Joe Urbanek lurks at 1 over, Spike Reinhardt is close, Morg looked like an elevator on the card. JR Golfers-WOW, Jake Bermel shot 76(son of John Bermel, PGA), 13yro Mike Busse (son of MI PGA members Perry&Mary Jo Busse) shot 83, 10yro Ben Bermel(see Jake) shot 90 to lead his flight. How good is golf in the Cedar Valley? Should be a great final day at the Waverly Golf Course. That time of year as the Waverly Golf Course hosts its annual Men’s and Ladies’ Invitationals. The men kick off the week as they begin play on Saturday at 6:50 am with possibly the strongest field we have ever had. Past champions throughout the field PLUS many potential new champs.
