Brent Jones wins Sole Survivor at Waverly Golf Course

Sole Survivor (a shoot out where one drops one guy per hole, starting with 8 guys on hole #1) finished today. The Top 6 plus 2 chip-off winners from the weekends Mens Handicap in each of the 3 divisions happened today. Joe Meier survived the C division, Brent Jones the B division and Jeff Jones the A division. Brent then went on to win the 2 hole playoff over Joe and Brent to win the overall title. Congrats to Brent and all 24 competitors for their play over the weekend and tonight. Poock shoots Net 59 to win the Waverly Golf Mens Handicap

Josh Poock, who just began playing golf for real this season is hooked for good. Josh shot a gross 95, net 59 followed by his net 69 for a 128 total to win by 2 over Joe Meier. Josh has worked hard at improving his golf game by playing and practicing. Congrats to Josh. Joe followed a net 64 with a net 66 but Josh was too strong. Scott Hoppenworth was third at 131. Thanks for all that played and the great work on this tourney by Bob Lenz, Tim Kuethe, Scott Bonorden and Scott Thorson. Don’t forget that sole survivor is this Wednesday at Waverly Golf.
Meier leads Day 1 at Waverly Golf Mens Handicap

Joe Meier used all the muscles he could muster to shoot a fine 64 (6 under net) to lead day 1. He was followed by Scott Hoppenworth at 65 and Jerry Woodin at 66. There is a log jam at 67 with 7 players including Mr. Ed Droste who shot UNDER his age with a gross 82. There are 25 players within 5 shots of the lead going into the final day of the Mens Handicap. Should be a great finish.

The season has not ended yet in Iowa. Kids in school, Friday night football, college football, cross country and volleyball are starting. But golf is just beginning. Fall is the best time to work on your golf game. You have NO tournaments coming up (ie no pressure), golf league is over and you are mad your handicap went up or stayed the same. So play some golf, see John Shawver, PGA, for a golf lesson to work on this fall and be ready for Spring 2012. Now is a great time to move up a set of tees or two and work on shooting LOW NUMBERS. Find a way to shoot under par, Narve, life memberPGA used to have Jack Rule, Ken Schall, Clark Burroughs, Doug Dunakey, Scott Morgensen to name a few move forward and get used to being UNDER PAR. Legend Trail aerifies greens and Steph turns 20, yikes

Legend Trail aerified the greens today. So why do we do this? Answer one is we are in great shape when do we aerify(tearthecourseup)? Maybe the superintendents on Facebook will let us know, but here are a couple reasons why-gets air exchange down to the roots (helps growth and disease prevention) and gets rid of the organic matter which aids all kinds of things. We r about educating. And the Mason family lost its last teenage, RIP, happy 20th Steph. Tomorrow we will talk about a typical day in life of PGA Pro.
Chad Campbell defends Club Champ title at Legend Trail

Chad Campbell defended his Club Championship by shooting 72-75-147 to defend his title from 2010. Derek Etjen put some pressure on Chad on the front 9, but Chad put the hammer down and played some steady golf as the pursuers attempted to catch him. Big Ed shot a nice round of 97 in a tournament setting. We are glad that the Big Guy is just alive and playing and having fun playing golf. Legend Trail Invite will be on September 11. Denny Meyer shoots his age at Waverly Golf Course

While playing in the 18 hole golf league at Waverly Golf Course in Waverly, Iowa, Denny “Catfish” Meyer shot his age for the first time. He said he would like to do it this year to our staff and, well he did it. Denny had to make a 12 foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to shoot even par 70 to match his age. Congrats to Denny on this feat.

Chad Campbell looks to defend his title from last year where he had to make a 3 foot putt on 18 to defeat Louie Cox. Sheri Neymeyer will defend her ladies title from 2010. This promises to be a fun, challenging event. We do flight this event for the golfers so come one come all.
